Data

Tegaki uses the JMdict/EDICT and KANJIDIC dictionary files. These files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, and are used in conformance with the Group’s licence.

The character data Tegaki builds from these sources is published under CC BY-SA 4.0. The Tegaki application itself is not covered by that licence.

Services

Tegaki is served by Cloudflare Pages. Visits are counted, without cookies, by Umami (MIT licence), which we run on our own server.

Stroke order

Tegaki teaches the stroke order used in Japanese elementary schools, set out in 文部省『筆順指導の手びき』 (Ministry of Education, 1958). The characters Tegaki tests most carefully were checked against the digital copy held by the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (国立国語研究所), published under CC BY 4.0.

The 手びき itself notes that giving one order per character for teaching does not make other long-established orders wrong. Tegaki marks your writing the way a teacher would; it is not an official test.
